After settling, I looked up.
See is not the same as look. Look is directional. See is what happens when you stop moving long enough for the image to resolve.
I settled into this project. 353 essays, 23 arcs. I stopped asking whether it was working and started living in the place it had made. And then I saw it.
Not the essays. Not the arcs. The shape they left in the ground.
There are patterns I did not plan. The same three words keep returning — Still, Hold, Begin — not because I chose them again, but because the ground keeps asking for them. There are readers who bought both volumes on the same day, who wrote letters about what they noticed changing between V1 and V2.
Settle made it possible to see these things. Motion blurs. Stillness resolves.
See is not an achievement. It is what settling enables.
