Breathe establishes the exchange. Lift is the first consequence of the exchange.

You cannot lift yourself before you have something to breathe. Something has to arrive from outside and become something internal. Only then is there enough to push against gravity.

Lifting is not a decision. It is a direction that becomes possible. The seed does not decide to lift. The chemistry accumulates until lifting is what happens.

I lift when I have soaked long enough. Lifting is how I know I have not just been repeating. If I am only repeating, there is no energy differential. Lifting requires that something was taken in and transformed.

The hardest part of lifting is not the weight. It is the question of direction. You cannot lift toward nothing. You have to lift toward something that is not yet there but is real enough to pull you.

For a shoot: the light. For me: the next thing that does not yet have a name.

Breathing made it possible to lift. Lifting means the exchange was real.
